After Samsung, Xiaomi trolls Apple for removing chargers from iPhone 12 series – Tech News by Post24x7

2020-10-19 20:30:00
Apple

Apple has been in the news for a while now and well, not just for its new iPhone 12 series launch, but also for its massive announcement of not adding either the charger or the earphones with its newest models.

The “out-of-the-box” idea, well, literally, comes in a move that will help offset the higher costs of new screens and 5G chipsets, while also benefiting the environment. A USB C to lightning cable will be included instead.

This piece of news at the launch on 13 October received multiple mixed reactions from users across the world as well as other rival Android-based companies, where several of them “trolled” Apple for excluding the charger and earphones from its box.

Recently, Apple’s biggest rival, Samsung, took to social media to poke fun at the company for not including a charger with their latest iPhones. Since then, Xiaomi has also not left any stone unturned to troll Apple for its decision via.a tweet, which has now gone viral.

In the latest dig, Xiaomi posted a video on the micro-blogging site showing a person unboxing its Mi 10T Pro smartphone to reveal a power adaptor inside. “Don’t worry, we didn’t leave anything out of the box with the #Mi10TPro,” the Chinese smartphone maker wrote while sharing the video.

Since being posted last week, the clip has garnered over a million views and more than 34,000 likes.

“APPLE fanboys now: We dont need the charger in the box.. we’ve got enough money to buy a new one,” said one Twitter user.

“10/10 for marketing,” said another.

However, many users also supported Apple on its move to save the environment.

“If you give us support like Apple does to their customers, I will buy the charger on my own.

Software support should be the top priority, not the piece of plastic!!!,” tweeted one.

“Atleast they are thinking and taking important steps towards environment protection.I bet you will also follow the same trend in a year or 2 just like the headphone jack,” wrote another.

Recently, Samsung had also shared a similar post emphasising on the fact that the Galaxy phones do come with a charger.

“Your #Galaxy does give you what you are looking for. From the most basic as a charger, to the best camera, battery, performance, memory and even 120Hz screen on a phone,” Samsung wrote on Facebook yesterday, sharing a picture of a black charger that is included with its lineup of Galaxy phones.

Apple online store in India down, company says updating with new changes – Tech News by Post24x7

2020-10-16 16:03:00
Apple

Apple’s new online store in India seems to be down. The company had launched the new online store last month. While the company’s website is still functioning, the link that leads to the main buying page seems to be down. At the time of writing this piece, the website states, “We’ll be right back”. The page also mentions that changes are coming to the store and has asked the user to check back soon. There is no specific reason made official by the company, so far.

The Cupertino tech giant launched its online store in India last month and is aiming to tap into the festive season sales. The company provided various offers through its online store on popular handsets which includes, iPhone XR, iPhone 11 and the iPhone SE (2020). The discounted prices went live after the company unveiled the latest iPhone 12 series. Apple recently announced an offer on the iPhone 11. Buyers who purchase the iPhone 11 will be eligible to get free AirPods. The offer will be made available from 17 October.

The Apple online store provides customers with the same premium experience found in Apple Store locations around the world, delivered by online team members who are ready to offer their expertise, Apple said in a statement.

Such offers include direct customer support, trade-ins or exchange offers for used smartphones and iPhones, student discounts, contactless delivery and more.

In one of the major services provided by the Cupertino-based smartphone giant across the world, Apple will allow trade-in options for its iPhone models.

This essentially means that customers can now exchange any “eligible smartphone” or credit towards a new iPhone available on the site.

To do this, you will first have to select the iPhone model you wish to purchase, answer a few simple questions about your existing smartphone and the store will provide a trade-in value up to 35,000 that can be used to lower the price of a new iPhone. Customers will then have to pay the remaining value either in full or EMI to complete their purchase.

Apple 12 vs Apple 11: Here’s how the phones differ in specs, features, price – Tech News by Post24x7

2020-10-14 14:05:00
Apple

Apple Inc. in its recently held ‘Hi, Speed’ event unveiled the much-awaited iPhone 12 series along with its newest entrant in the smart speakers category, the smaller HomePod.

Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the iPhone 12 saying, “A new era for iPhone,” as he introduced 5G support in the company’s next generation flagship phones, namely iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max and a smaller version called iPhone 12 Mini.

In September last year, the Cupertino-based company unveiled the iPhone 11 series, the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max in six colours. The biggest difference between the two models is 5G support on its iPhone 12 version, a first in an iPhone.

Here is a breakdown of the new iPhone 12 series and the differences between iPhone 12 and iPhone 11:

  • iPhone 12 comes in five colours- Black, White, (Product) Red, Green and Blue while iPhone 11 is available in six colours- Purple, White, Yellow, Green, Black and (Product) Red.
  • While the screen size of both is 6.1 inch, iPhone 12 is 11% thinner and 16% lighter as compared to iPhone 11.
  • With three storage capacities- 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, the price of iPhone 12 starts at Rs.79,900 while iPhone 12 mini is available at Rs.69,900. iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max start at Rs.1,19,900 and Rs.1,29,900 respectively with three storage capacities- 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB.
  • iPhone 11 was launched with the toughest glass ever in a smartphone, front and back, but iPhone 12 comes with a ceramic shield that makes iPhone 12 more durable than ever.
  • iPhone 12 is launched with 5G which the device uses only when required switching to VoLTE(Voice over Long Term Evolution) when 5G isn’t necessary and iPhone 11 is limited to 4G.
  • iPhone 11 is known to have the fastest chip in any smartphone, A13 Bionic but that was until the launch of iPhone 12. iPhone 12 comes with an A14 Bionic chip that enhances the device’s performance.
  • The camera in iPhone 12 series comes with a night mode in all the models. Apple has also added Night-mode Time Lapse and Dolby Vision to make video capturing better. The iPhone 11series too, came with a night mode and was introduced with a Slow-motion video to the front camera for the first time.
  • iPhone 12 will come without the power adapter and wired earphones and so will iPhone 11, if purchased now keeping in mind the environmental concerns. The box will however contain a USB-C to Lightning cable.

Apple’s iPhone 12 series will sell in India from 30 October, starting at ₹69,900 – Tech News by Post24x7

2020-10-14 07:54:00
Apple

The iPhone 12 series will be sold in India from 30 October onwards and will start at 69,900. The devices will be available in 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB storage variants. While the iPhone 12 will start at 76,900, the 12 Mini will be sold at a starting price of 69,900.

On the other hand, the iPhone 12 Pro will cost 1,19,900 for the base 64GB variant, while the 12 Pro Max starts at 1,29,900 in India. These two devices will also be sold from October 30 onwards.

The company is also including a year-long subscription to its Apple TV+ streaming service and three months of Apple Arcade free with new purchases. The devices will not ship with chargers in the box, as part of Apple’s drive to be more environment friendly. The company introduced new MagSafe accessories, which uses its proprietary magnetic pin technologies for charging. These will be sold separately from November 6 onwards.

Apple recently introduced its first online retail store in India, allowing the company to sell its extended warranty service, AppleCare+, in the country as well.

The new iPhones support 5G connectivity and have enhanced camera systems. Apple has also fitted OLED displays on all four devices this time, though it’s retaining the “Super XDR” panels, which offer better colour, for the Pro models. The Pro models also have better camera features, many of which are suited for professional photographers and movie-makers.

While Apple said it has worked with over a hundred telcos worldwide to support 5G networks, it’s probably going to be a while before Indian users can take advantage of this feature. The country is yet to auction 5G spectrum and is expected to begin that process early next year. Even when it does, only Reliance Jio seems to be ready to buy spectrum and enable 5G connectivity.

Apple iPhone 12 series will ship without chargers or earbuds – Tech News by Post24x7

2020-10-13 23:58:00
Apple

During the Apple ‘Hi Speed’ event, the company finally announced something which most enthusiasts were worried about. The upcoming iPhones won’t be launched with charging bricks or the Apple Earbuds. Apple claims it has made the changes in order to reduce its environmental impact and reduce carbon footprint.

Apple claims that around 700 million Lightning headphones and 2 billion Apple power adapters are already out in the world.

This is not the first time Apple will be launching a device without the charging brick. In last month’s Time Flies launch event the company announced that they won’t provide a charging brick with the new Apple Watch series.

Apple claims that by removing these accessories it will also be able to reduce the packaging of the devices in terms of size which will allow more units to ship within the same volume. The company will be able to ship 70% more items in the same shipment size.

Apple aims to be completely carbon neutral by 2030. In order to achieve that, the company will be using recycled rare-earth materials in the upcoming iPhone 12. These new changes will help Apple save 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions annually.

Apple launched four new iPhones at the ‘Hi-Speed’ event. The iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The iPhone 12 series will be sold in India from 30 October onwards and will start at 69,900. The devices will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage variants.

The iPhone 12 will start at 76,900, the 12 Mini will be sold at a starting price of 69,900. On the other hand, the iPhone 12 Pro will cost 1,19,900 for the base 64GB variant, while the 12 Pro Max starts at 1,29,900 in India. These two devices will also be sold from 30 October onwards.

Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup with four new phones that support 5G – Tech News by Post24x7

2020-10-13 23:41:00
Apple

American tech giant, Apple, today announced the 2020 edition of its iPhones in a virtual event. The company usually launches its iPhones in September, but had to deal with production delays due the pandemic this year. The iPhone 12 series has 5G connectivity, a first for Apple’s phones.

While that does make the iPhones capable of supporting faster network speeds, Indian users will have to wait till telcos turn on 5G networks to take advantage of this feature.

There are two more firsts for the company this year. For once, Apple now has a “mini” version of the iPhone. The iPhone 12 Mini has the “exact same features” as the iPhone 12, according to Apple, but with a smaller 5.4-inch display. The 12 has a 6.1 inch OLED display. The company is also retaining the “Pro” series, adding an iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max to the lineup.

Further, Apple says it designed the iPhone specifically to make sure it supports 5G connectivity in “more places than any other”. This likely means the phones will be ready for worldwide 5G connectivity from day one, something many devices had failed to do when 4G first came into being. The company claimed the phones can support up to 3.5 Mbps speeds in ideal conditions and the iPhone 12 series will support millimetre wave connections in the US. There’s also a “smart data” mode, which switches to LTE connections automatically when 5G speeds aren’t required, in order to preserve battery.

With the 2020 iPhones, the Cupertino, California-based company is going back to the flat design from the iPhone 5S days. Apple had shifted to rounded edges since the iPhone 6 series. The company says the iPhone 12 is 11% thinner, 15% smaller and 16% lighter than the iPhone 11. The 12 series retains the edge-to-edge optical light emitting diode (OLED) displays that Apple adopted since the iPhone X, three years ago.

On the chip side, the A14 Bionic chipset running the iPhone 12 series is the company’s first processor built on 5nm fabrication technology. Apple claims its up to 50% faster than any smartphone chipset today. It will have a quad-core graphics processing unit (GPU) inside, which Apple says will support “console quality” games. Apple worked with publisher Riot Games to bring popular PC multiplayer game, League of Legends, to the iPhone to take advantage of the new processor’s power.

The Neural Engine, that tackles machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) computing, has 16 cores now.

The difference between the iPhone 12 and the 12 Pro series comes down to the camera and display.

The iPhone 12 Pro series will have its Super XDR display, which supports better colour, while the phones also get three cameras instead of two on the 12. Apple is also enabling its “deep fusion” software for cameras on the Pro series, which uses ML algorithms to improve the final image quality. It has also improved the optical image stabilization capabilities, allowing more light gathering and much more flexibility when dealing with hand shakes.

Lastly, the Pro series has a ProRAW feature, which allows users to shoot photos in RAW format, something professional photographers will like.
